Teamwork

The project team works closely with the City of Des Moines, the Iowa Department of Transportation (IaDOT), the Des Moines City Council, the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), multiple railroads, utiltity companies, and other local agencies and stakeholders to design and provide construction phase services for the Southeast (SE) Connector.

Project Team Bios

The Southeast Connector will result in an efficient, direct access corridor to address the mobility needs of this quadrant of Des Moines and the broader metropolitan area. Improvements will increase access to existing neighborhoods, business and industry, as well as facilitate future developments, such as the Agrimergent Technology Park.

CDM Smith is an international consulting engineering, planning and economics firm that celebrates more than 50 years of service as a leader in the environmental and planning/engineering and transportation economics industry.

Working from its Kansas City and Chicago offices, CDM Smith will lead the project team in conducting environmental analysis. CDM Smith will work cooperatively with the project team, other agencies and stakeholders to determine the required level of environmental analysis, conduct the analysis, document the process and obtain the required clearances.

CDM Smith is currently working on and has recently completed several prominent corridor studies with land use, environmental, economic development, traffic modeling and analysis, conceptual and preliminary engineering and public involvement components in the Midwest. University of Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist

The University of Iowa Office of the State Archeologist (UI-OSA) is a nonprofit organization specifically created to help public and private organizations comply with high expectations of current cultural resource regulations in a cost-effective manner. The project team will rely on the UI-OSA for cultural resource management, architectural studies and research.

The UI-OSA has worked with engineers, developers, landowners and state and local governments to successfully negotiate complex cultural resource compliance laws since 1959.

Tallgrass Historians L.C.

Tallgrass Historians L.C. is an established historical research and environmental consulting firm that brings to the project team expertise in cultural resource management, historic preservation, museum consulting and corporate archival services.

Offices are located in Iowa City with access to research collections at the University of Iowa, the State Historical Society of Iowa and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library.

From its roots in geotechnical engineering beginning in 1965, Terracon is a consulting engineering firm that provides specialized geotechnical, environmental construction materials, pavement and facilities testing in more than 60 offices in 24 states. A multi-disciplined engineering and science and technology firm, URS serves public and private clients in the facilities, surface transportation, air transportation and environmental markets.
