Project Overview

The Southeast (SE) Connector Project consists of two phases (also referred to as Phase I and II). The components of Phase I included:

SE Connector Phase I (COMPLETED 2015)   SW 2nd to SE 15th Streets map »

  • Re-evaluation of existing Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
  • Selection of bridge type across the Des Moines River
  • Design from SW 2nd to SE 6th
  • Purchase property from SW 2nd to SE 15th
  • Construction from SW 2nd to SE 6th
  • Design SE 6th to SE 15th
  • Construction from SE 6th to SE 15th

The components of Phase II included:

SE Connector Phase II (COMPLETED UP TO SE 30TH)  SE 15th Street to U.S. 65 map »

  • Meeting with resource agencies (USACE, SHPO)
  • Gather input from public
  • Produce Record of Decision for Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
  • Design from SE 15th Street to SE 30th Street
  • Property Acquistion
  • Construction from SE 15th Street to SE 30th Street
  • Design from SE 30th Street to U.S. 65

The SE Connector Phase has only one segment of construction remaining, which runs from SE 30th Street to US 65.

Phase II of the SE Connector has been formally approved with the Record of Decision. The yellow alignment was selected from SE 15th to Highway 65. Construction on the final segment is expected to begin in 2023.
